Annual Community Worship Service

The Bunker Hill First Baptist, Free Will Baptist and United Methodist Churches worshipped  together at the Fire Department. A picnic fellowship followed at the First Baptist Church. All three churches delivered a 15-20 minute sermon which were well received by more than 140 worshipers.

Sermon excerpts follow in the order they were spoken.

First Baptist

Pastor Chuck Lane - Guided by Authenticity - Reference James 1:19-27

Someone here may not be living an authentic Christian life. We accept him as master and offer to be his servant. How can we dare to fail to be the Christian we are called to be! Do what the word of God says in this book!  Understand the importance of authenticity in faith!

United Methodist

Chris Burke - Guided by Humility - Reference James 3:1-12

Who has control of our words? God or men? Our words give life or death! If you hear only nice things from the pulpit and never things you need to hear run to another church where your heart can still be convicted! We are accountable for every word we speak!

Free Will Baptist

Pastor Bill Sheets - Guided by Love - 1 Corinthians 13

People should see love and know love and know why we love! The love of Jesus should be seen in our sanctuaries! Love has to be the "why"  we do things! Consider  why and what we do because we love. There must be a difference in our motives than the world's self interest or satisfaction. Love! Jesus! Must be that motivation!

When we trust on one another we lean on dust. Place your trust in God and lean on his people! In God we trust! If you are not trusting in God you are trusting in something else or someone else. Where is your trust? If you rely solely upon people you will be disappointed at some point. There is a blessing for those who trust God alone! A life that trusts him will not be disappointed when we trust him with everything.

There is nothing we can do to make God love us less! Our Father will receive us back to himself in love! God's love is unconditional! Without God there is no such thing as love! The church must respond to sinners with the love of God! Are we picking and choosing how we love? God's love should compel us to forgive! Respond to God's love by responding to others in love!

Pastor Bill's Message Excerpts

Reference Luke 15:11-25

What steals our joy? Selfishness and sin! How do we recover lost joy? By getting the right perspective of God and a renewed attitude by a repentant heart. Joy  comes from a thankful heart that is confident in God's promises! We should receive a repentant person with open arms and should be accepted as family into this church. We have a responsibility to reach our neighbors for Jesus and realize the urgency! Rediscover joy!

Sunday February 8, 2009

Pastor Bill's Message Excerpts

Reference Luke15, 1Corinthinans 7, Hebrews 12:10

Look for that lost soul as something of value! A lost soul could be as a lost piece of silver like one woman had lost. How much more valuable is a lost soul? It is urgent today to get the message out! It is necessary! How urgent is it to us that the lost can enjoy the same peace we have? Be fishers of men not keepers of the aquarium! it is amazing what God can do with a teachable heart! Is your lost remote control more valuable than the lost soul? Please consider lost people more valuable!

Sunday February 1, 2009

Pastor Bill's Message Excerpts

Reference Luke 15, Matthew 18

We are choosing two paths today. One is death and the other is safety and life. Tell people of the path of life! We need to reach our friends and neighbors! My wife and I came to church faithfully every Sunday in the beginning and she was more faithful than I was. Then we started coming on Wednesdays and doing things in the church. There was a deeper commitment and understanding in my family. Where is our hope? Is it in national leaders and money? Hope is only found in Jesus! Any other hope is a lie! Now you are an ambassador for Christ when you are reconciled to him! Everyone is necessary and lost people matter!

What New Year resolutions were made? Ask not what was the resolution but why was the resolution. What is the purpose! Do we lose weight to look better? Do we spend our money wisely to buy more stuff or do we glorify God in a healthy body being good stewards of it? Do we spend more wisely being good stewards of it? Make God the center of resolution not self centeredness.
